American Kris Blanks birdied his final five holes to fire an eight-under par 63 and seize a one-stroke lead after Thursday’s opening round of the $4.5 million US PGA John Deere Classic.
Blanks, whose best PGA showing was a share of second at last year’s Puerto Rico Open, seized a one-stroke edge over countrymen Davis Love and Steve Marino and Canada’s Matt McQuillan with US players Mark Wilson and Kyle Stanley on 65. Blanks, who began on the back nine, opened with a birdie only to bogey the 11th. He answered with three birdies in a row starting at the 12th, then began his back nine with a birdie at the first.
After a bogey at the par-4 fourth, Blanks responded with birdies on his final five holes to seize the lead, including a 25-foot birdie putt at the par-4 fifth and an 11-footer at the ninth to take the lead alone.
“It was good to finally see some putts fall,” Blanks said. “I’ve been struggling with (putting) all year, so that was definitely a positive. It’s just fun to make some putts. I thought my speed was real good all day.”
US veteran Steve Stricker, trying to win the John Deere for the third year in a row, was in a group of 12 players on 66 that included Australian Cameron Percy and Zimbabwe’s Brendon de Jonge.
McQuillan, a rookie who has missed 10 cuts in a row, won his way onto this season’s US PGA Tour in last year’s qualifying tournament after giving up his career in 2005 for two years of bartending.
“After about a year working, I realized golf wasn’t too bad,” McQuillan said. “It’s very difficult and to stay positive and patient has been the key for me,” McQuillan said. “I’m out here playing with the best players in the world.
“So it’s very tough to stay positive and patient. But I just figure I’m out here, I qualified to get out here, so I’m trying to have fun and make some birdies.”
After opening with an eagle sandwiched between bogeys, McQuillan made seven birdies to finish the day, three of them in a row starting at the par-3 12th.
“I figured I got my great stuff and bad stuff out early and then just tried to make some good swings,” he said.

The World of Golf Is Green

The World of Golf Is Green

Today, golf is a great sport enjoyed by millions of people around the world. So, this is a crazy golf world, and the world of golf is green!
Do you know what is meaning? Read this article carefully, you may find the answer. If you are looking to purchase good golf clubs, I would like to recommend the Mizuno golf - mizuno MX 700 driver for sale to you!
THE world of golf is green … with envy! How does a tiny island like Ireland produce three golfers capable of winning five of the last 16 Majors? And the ‘New Tiger’ to boot! In the absence of the injured Tiger Woods, US Open history-maker Rory McIlroy is the bookies’ favourite for next week’s British Open in Sandwich.
For 60 years, Fred Daly’s win at the 1947 British Open was Ireland’s solitary success on the Major championship stage — then, incredibly, three champions came in quick succession. “They build us tough in Ireland,” quips 2010 US Open winner Graeme McDowell. “It’s our golf courses and the coaching programmes put in place by the Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI). It’s whatever way they build us in Ireland.”
Holywood star McIlroy surmises: “I think it starts with the people. Golf is very accessible in Ireland and, obviously, there are a lot of great golf courses.
“The GUI helped me growing up and throughout my amateur career. They enabled me to play in different places around the world, learn about different conditions and different cultures, which really prepared me for coming out on Tour.”
Yet there’s more to it than that. For a start, McIlroy, who may like the MX 700 driver, was born with a rare talent, which was nurtured lovingly by his parents, Gerry and Rosie, and then honed by his swing coach since childhood, PGA professional Michael Bannon.
The path McIlroy (22) took to Major glory is shorter and infinitely more dramatic than those followed by older compatriots Harrington and McDowell.
McIlroy’s mature acceptance of his implosion at Augusta as a learning experience and his ability to sift reams of advice in its wake and produce a winning formula at Congressional was utterly astonishing.
While the environment fostered by the GUI and golf clubs without question played its part in their stunning development, the success enjoyed by McIlroy, Harrington and McDowell is founded principally on their own intelligence.
There’s no doubt that the most important fairway in golf remains the six inches between each player’s ears.

What will McIlroy’s Life be Now

Any golf fan would know Rory McIlroy won the 2011 US Open, do you want to know what McIlroy’s Life will be now?
This is what Rory McIlroy’s life will be now! Sometimes life just likes the look of you. Rory McIlroy isn’t normally given to the snarky aside but it was impossible not to smile at his Twitter message to Ian Poulter on Saturday as the Scottish Open began to look more like a Bannockburn re-enactment than a golf tournament.
Reading my article carefully, you may find the answer! In this article, I would like to tell you the latest news about Luke Donald. If you want to read golf clubs reviews, you may read this article about TaylorMade R11 Driver for sale in my blog.
“Looks like the boys in Scotland are getting a great prep for next week,” Rory McIlroy wrote to Poulter, another who skipped the mess in Inverness and has had to fend off the odd poison-tipped arrow himself as a result. “4.40 wake-up calls and a soft golf course.”
This is what McIlroy’s life will be now. Every move and non-move analysed, picked apart and pronounced upon. Few sports find ways to knot their own knickers like golf does, as evidenced by the hilariously high dudgeon of Colin Montgomerie last week when asked about the broken shin Thomas Levet earned himself after jumping into a greenside lake upon winning the French Open.
“It’s the silliest thing that players have done over the years,” grouched Monty, “and let’s hope that’s the last time that ever happens. It is not the way to celebrate a golf tournament win. We are lucky it’s only a leg injury.”
McIlroy’s fame will never approach Woodsian levels purely because he isn’t American. But as we’re already seeing, he’ll have to fight his own machine in his own way. He’ll be forced to explain everything for everybody, from his schedule choices to his nationality to his love life. If his sweetness is stolen somewhere along the way, golf will be the poorer for it. But it’ll be the price of doing business.
Everything we’ve seen from McIlroy so far suggests a boy with enough cop-on to hold tight to that good nature. But if it ebbs away over the years, there’s a decent chance it will say more about his sport than it will about him.

Rory McIlroy Vs Lee Westwood

Following the decline, if not fall, of Tiger Woods, Chandler is arguably the most influential individual in golf today, reshaping the game’s frontiers in the age of Rory McIlroy. Chandler has been 22 years in the empire-building business, long enough to recognize a game breaker when he sees one.
Now, the Britain Open is coming! Rory McIlroy may be the star but Andrew Chandler tips Lee Westwood for glory. Who will win the Open? In this article, I would tell you the latest golf news about Rory McIlroy Vs Lee Westwood. If you want to read the golf clubs reviews, you may read this funny article about TaylorMade R9 Driver for sale in my blog.
“One of the things we are good at is managing people’s expectations. For all the will in the world, Louis Oosthuizen knows an Open Championship win for him is not as big as a US Open win for Rory McIlroy,” Chandler said.
“Looking after Rory is a massive responsibility. It has been that from the start. You are trying to steer a straight course and avoid too many errors while ensuring that all our players reach their potential at golf. We don’t market the hell out of them trying to get every single dime. It is all about scheduling for the benefit of their careers.
“That said, Rory has a lot coming at him at the moment. You try to go through them and find the deals that suit him best and are the kindest for him.
“Rory loves sport. It’s his only hobby. If we do a deal with a company that involves ambassadorial work for them at a sporting event then that’s much more appealing for him than four tournament days with clients. If I can find sponsors that want to take him to Wimbledon, Man United, Formula One, that’s an easy deal to make.”
Chandler could fill an Open field with the number of talented supernovas that have been put his way on a change-the-world ticket. Few make the first tee in the pro game. McIlroy was another generating a lot of junior noise.
So what was so different about him? “It was obvious at 12 that he was special, different. He was smaller than everybody else, better than every body else, had a little swagger. He just stood out.
While McIlroy, Oosthuizen and Schwartzel have been breaking down major doors, Chandler has looked on with some empathy at the narrow failures of Lee Westwood, the player with whom he is most associated. Call it the sympathy vote if you will, but, whisper it quietly, Chandler is tipping Westwood, not McIlroy, to triumph this week.
